Network Infrastructure Planning

OIT has been in the process of modernizing the campus network, beginning in July 2013.  Over the next 15 months, OIT will be completing the modernization of the campus network.  Most of this work will take place during the summers of 2015 and 2016 in order to minimize any impact on the campus.  Most of this work, also, will be invisible to our users.  Once completed, the campus will benefit from greater network speed, reliability and robustness, as well as lower maintenance and energy costs.  We at OIT are eager to bring these benefits to campus.

First we have installed new air-blown single mode fiber across campus, this work should be completed by the end of July, 2015.  The summer of 2015, we will be implementing our new data jack policy for administrative and faculty buildings. (We did this for the majority of student housing the summer of 2014.)  This will allow us to have much fewer switches and allow our future network plans to be accomplished more easily.  The final step is to move from our flat network to routed network made up of 7 zones.

This page will be updated frequently with information that will  help explain the project and timelines.

Request to activate data jack

We will be starting to consolidate active data jacks in data closets which will allow us to remove switches.  Check the building schedule to see when this work is currently scheduled.
