Can I forward a voicemail message using the Cisco Jabber client?
Yes, right-click the voicemail message within the Jabber client and click Forward voice message.

When I use Jabber to place phone calls on a computer, should I use a headset?

Yes, in order to experience the best sound quality and minimize interference, we recommend you use a headset, especially if it is connected to your Jabber device via Bluetooth.

Can I call 911 using Jabber? 

No, you shouldn’t use Jabber when calling 911.  It will not translate your location to emergency services.

I can’t control my phone with my computer, it fails to connect.

Signing out of Jabber will usually fix this.  You can’t just close Jabber, you must select Sign Out from the file menu.

I can’t hear anything when using Jabber/Calls aren’t coming in.

When using Google Meet or Zoom, sometimes the speaker will be taken over by those applications. Adjust your speaker under the Menu – Settings – Audio (PC) or Jabber – Preferences – Audio/Visual (Mac)

Does Jabber require VPN?

No, VPN is no longer required for Jabber.

Do I have to dial 9 when making external calls from Jabber?

Yes, you do have to dial 9 to making an external call. When placing a call to someone on campus, you only need to use their extension.

How do I disconnect Jabber from my Google calendar?

On a PC, click the Gear – Settings – Calendar – change Calendar Integrations to None

On a Mac, click Jabber – Preferences – Status – remove the check for In a meeting.

Is Jabber just another communication platform similar to Slack/Zoom/Google Hangouts?

No. While Jabber has chat and video functions, the key feature is that Jabber is connected to your College extension number, giving you what’s essentially a portable landline. It also keeps your cell phone number private to those you call.

Add a New User to an Existing Jabber Chat Room

This process can only be completed by the person that is the administrator of the Jabber Chat Room

Click the small ‘i’ that is located to the right of the name of the Jabber Chat Room

Click the + sign next to the Members heading

Search the directory for the name of the person to add or the person to remove

Click Save

Repeat search for any additional users to add

Click Save on the bottom of the screen to add all name(s) to the Jabber Chat Room

Delete a User from an Existing Chat Room

This process can only be completed by the person that is the administrator of the Jabber Chat Room

Click the small ‘i’ that is located to the right of the name of the Jabber Chat Room

Click the + sign next to the Members heading

Locate the person you need to delete

Click the delete user icon

Click Save on the bottom of the page
