On primary computers issued by OIT we provide backup solutions for you. For macOS we provide an external usb hard drive for use with Time Machine . It should be preconfigured if you received the computer from OIT. All you need to do it connect the drive to the computer and it will resume the backup. If you do not have a drive we can set one up upon request. The following will show the procedure for setting up and configuring a time machine backup.
How to enable Time Machine backups on your Mac
1. Select System Preferences from the Apple menu.
2. Choose the Time Machine icon. …
3. Click Select Backup Disk.
4. Select which disk you’d like to use as a Time Machine backup. …
5. Check the Back Up Automatically box in order to automatically back up your Mac to your chosen disks.
If you’d like to see that your Time Machine is working open the Time Machine System Preferences panel (System preferences >Time Machine). Here you’ll see the time of the last and next backups, or if a backup is currently in progress, a progress bar showing how much backup work is left to be done. (See above screen shot)
You can continue using your Mac while a backup is underway. Some Mac computers make backups even when asleep. Time Machine backs up only the files that changed since the previous backup, so future backups will be faster.
If your backup appears not to be working while the external hard drive is plugged into your computer please contact Client Services for assistance ([email protected])
