Starting January 20, 2025, Panopto (or “Course Media Gallery” in GLOW) will implement a new video retention policy which will delete certain unviewed videos.
Key Information:
- Inactive videos will be deleted: Under the new policy, videos not viewed in 2 years will become inactive. Inactive videos not viewed for another 2 years (4 years total) will be permanently deleted.
- Immediate one-time deletion: On January 20, 2025, videos unwatched since January 20, 2021 will be deleted.
- Easily keep videos active: Simply viewing a video resets the 4-year deletion clock.
- Protect important videos: Options are available to prevent deletion of critical videos.

Why this change?
This policy will allow OIT to support current teaching needs, manage storage costs, and cycle out unused content, including Kaltura videos and COVID-era Zoom recordings.
