This semester, 2 new GLOW features give faculty better control of how their specific grading practices are reflected in how students view grades in their course Gradebook area:
- The “Restrict view of quantitative data” course setting supports faculty whose courses prioritize qualitative feedback. When this setting is enabled, students will see only instructor comments and letter grades, not numerical grades.
- The “Point Based Grading Scheme” course setting supports faculty using a customized scheme who prefer a custom point-value base, rather than a percentage.
More detailed information is available in the Canvas Release Notes (2023-09-16).
Using these and other Gradebook features (e.g. grade posting and visibility policies) can help ensure your GLOW environment reflects your priorities. As always, please reach out to your department’s Academic Technology Consultant for support in implementing any of your specific pedagogical designs in GLOW.
