Online Software Training: Element K
Element K is a web-based software training service. Using it, you can take tutorials
on any computer that has access to the Internet. Access
to the courses are available 24/7 and they can be repeated or reviewed
as often as you like. All you need is a
compatible web browser.
If you know how Element K works, sign up
for an account now (use your Novell Netware username and
password to start the process). Otherwise, read the following instructions first:
Getting Started
Williams has a group subscription for Element K. When you sign up,
you create your own username and password on Element K's servers.
From then on, you don't have to visit this page again. The username
and password that you pick for yourself is all that you need to remember.
As you're signing up, please remember the following three things:
- We have a limited number of subscriptions which are for Williams
use only. Please don't share your Element K username, or the information
on the subscription page, with anyone else.
- When you choose a username, remember that your on-campus username
might already be in use by someone within the Element K system
with a name similar to yours. Simply
choose another username.
- When you enter your email address, please use your regular Williams
email address. While the server will let you sign up with an off-campus
address, your Element K account will be deleted unless it has
an on-campus email account associated with it.
After Signing Up
Once you have an account with Element K, go directly to
www.elementk.com.
Log in and you'll see
a banner across the top of the page that looks like this:

Click on
Course Catalog and you'll be presented with a list
of courses arranged alphabetically by manufacturer. PhotoShop
is under Adobe, Excel and Word are under Microsoft, and Dreamweaver is
under Macromedia. There's even a tutorial on how to use Element K that
you can take (under 'E' for Element).
Click on the title of the tutorial that you want to take and you'll see
a table of contents. Each course is broken into lessons, and each lesson
has one or more sections. To take the sections in order you can click
on on the words
Start Course in the top right hand corner. You can also
take the sections in any order by clicking on the title of the section
you want to take in the table of contents. To the right of each section
name you'll see a check box. Once you've completed a section, that box
will become checked. You can return to any section at any time.
Also in the top right hand corner of the page for some classes you'll
see the words
Take Assessment. If you choose to take the assessment
you'll be presented with 20 questions that the computer will use to evaluate
your existing knowledge. Based on your answers, the computer will check
off the lessons it feels you have mastered.
When you click on a lesson or start the course, a window will open showing
you the program that you're studying plus a
blue instruction window. Read
the instructions in the window and follow any directions it gives. When
you're ready to move to the next page, click on the right arrow.
If you have any difficulty or questions, please
