Workshops & Training under review

During the fall of 2011, a subcommittee of OIT is reviewing our training and workshop offerings in order to better serve the Williams community.

Many changes have spurred this review. Among them are:

  • new applications and technologies
  • increased expectations of faculty & staff and more demands on their time
  • the college’s move toward a more coordinated web presence

These changes create new opportunities for learning – and for sharing what we have learned – in new and innovative ways.

Training is still available

Although a formal schedule of workshops has been suspended during this process, OIT staff are always available to help with individual or group support on the programs and topics listed at right (among others).

If you have any questions, or would like to request training, please email workshops@williams.edu.

Media Education Center (MEC) Drop-ins

You are welcome to drop by Jesup 316 with media related questions. The student media consultants (SMCs) are trained in all the media lab equipment, video editing, Photoshop, and other media related software. MEC hours, etc. »

Media Mentors

As part of the IDeaL Initiative (Integrating Digitlal Literacies), OIT will provide Student Media Mentors to faculty for course-specific training and support of students undertaking multimedia projects as part of their regular course assignments. The media projects are designed to integrate research and content with digital literacy concepts including: information fluency, visual literacy, media scholarship and digital publishing. If you are interested in exploring the use of a Media Mentor, please contact your ITech liaison.

Online Software Training:

Element K: We have a license for Element K, a web-based software training service, that can be used on any campus computer. Sign up for a free account now, or go directly to the Element K site if you’ve already signed up.

Lynda.com helps users learn how to use various design programs (PhotoShop, Finalcut, InDesign, etc.) and create better finished products, be that images, videos, posters or web pages. Lynda.com is available in Jesup 204. Faculty can request a temporary account from Mika Hirai for use in their own office.
