Emergency Access of Information

Williams College strives to ensure information privacy for its computer users.  Occasionally legitimate reasons arise that require access to information held on college systems. These exceptions may be required based on legal action (such as a court order), may involve the health and/or safety of an individual or group, or be prompted by urgent college business needs.

Should an exceptional situation arise and the individual user is unavailable or unable to provide permission, and if circumstances merit, access may be provided only with the approval of an authorized college official.

Students Dean of the College or Vice President for Campus Life
Faculty Dean of the Faculty
Senior Staff President
President Chair, Board of Trustees
Staff (all others) Vice President for Finance and Administration

In situations where the approvers listed above are unable to perform this duty in the manner or time frame needed, an officer of the college will assume decision authority.
