Movie Madness Returns!

2011 Billy Award

The MEC and OIT are pleased to announce the categories for our 2012 Movie Madness Short Film competition.

Submissions are being accepted NOW! Please use this form and follow the submission instructions carefully.  You may submit multiple films, but only one category per film.  All submitted films will be evaluated for any “Williams” specific content and may be selected for automatic entry into a special “Williams” category with a special prize.  That means your single entry could have two chances of winning if it contains Williams-centric theme/story/content.

All entries must be submitted on a DVD, full-quality/uncompressed DV or HD format only. All entries must be accompanied by the submission form completed in full, and delivered to Jesup 314 by 5 PM, Thursday, February 2, 2012. Any entry in excess of the category time allowance or containing materials NOT in accordance with the Release Statement on the submission form will be immediately disqualified. Elligibilty for additional entry into the special “Williams” category will be determined by the contest organizers.

This contest is open to current Williams students, faculty and staff only. All category winners will compete for “Best in Show” grand prize and the Best in Show winner does not receive an additional category prize. Prizes are as follows:

Best in Show prize: iPad2, 16 GB, wifi ready & 2012 “Billy” trophy.
Williams Special Category Prize: iPod Touch, 8 GB, wifi ready & 2012 “Billy” trophy.
Regular Category Winner prize: 1Pod Nano, 16 GB & 2012 “Billy” trophy.
(Note: any prize may be exchanged for a similarly priced tech gadget, by winner’s choice.)
Honorable mention trophies will be awarded in each category as well.

This years categories are:

Category: Video

5 minute maximum length – Any topic, all original filmed footage and audio.

Category: Animation

5 minute maximum length – Any topic,  all original artwork and audio. Can be stop action, hand-drawn, Flash or mixed media.

Category: Mock-umentary, Parody or Spoof

5 minute maximum length - All original filmed footage or animation  and audio.

Category: Long-short

15 minute maximum length – Any media, any topic, all original video or animation and audio.

All time limits are absolute! Any piece submitted for a category that is longer than the maximum time will be disqualified. All footage should be original work by the submitter, or with written proof for permission to use by the submitter from the originator of the work.

The MEC has support for:

  • flatbed & slide scanning
  • poster & color printing
  • audio & video production
  • animation production
  • digital sending
  • copy-stand work
  • video conferencing

and more. It’s the primary destination for individual or small group training and support.

Location and Hours

The Media Education Center, Jesup 316, is physically located on the third floor of Jesup hall. It is open on weekdays from 9 AM to 5 PM. Staffed “Drop-in” support hours are currently 10AM – noon and 2 PM – 5 PM.
