Forwarding Incoming Emails to a non-Williams Account

There are several important concerns to consider when automatically forwarding incoming emails to another account:

For Faculty and Staff

Faculty and staff are urged to refrain from forwarding their Williams’ Gmail to an external email account if what they communicate about is subject to other legal or policy requirements related to institutional access, confidentiality, or record-keeping, or academic or business information typically maintained by Williams, e.g., official course-related and student record communications including,  but not limited to, grades and student enrollments,  which are subject to the Family Educational Rights an Privacy Act (FERPA)

If you are considering forwarding your Williams’ Gmail account to a non-Williams-provided email/Gmail account, please be aware that these email accounts may not offer the same security or privacy that your Williams’ Gmail account does.

For Students

If you are considering forwarding your Williams’ Gmail account to a non-Williams-provided email/Gmail account, please be aware that these email accounts may not offer the same security or privacy that your Williams’ Gmail account does.

Students are urged to refrain from forwarding their Williams’ Gmail to an external email account to protect confidential information that will sometimes be sent to your Williams’ Gmail account.
